FOR THE 2017-2018 CURLING SEASON, THE YOUTH LEAGUE WILL PLAY ON SUNDAY AFTERNOONS ONLY.
The youth league is open to anyone between the ages of 7-20.
For youth aged 7-12, we offer LITTLE ROCKS which are half the weight of the adult-sized rocks and offers great starting point for kids who want to start the sport.
For youth aged 12-20, we offer our junior program.
To ensure the program runs safely and successfully we do ask parents to volunteer occasionally, no curling experience is required. We are currently seeking volunteers to help out on a weekly basis. If you or someone you know (including high school students seeking to fulfill their volunteer hours) please contact the Youth Convenor.

About the League
Chinguacousy Curling Club offers curling instruction for youth ranging in age from 7 years old to 20. This year there will be only one draw available, Sunday afternoons from 1:00 to 2:30 pm. The curling season runs for 21 weeks from October to March. All curlers at the end of the season will have an opportunity to take part in a Parent/Little Rock or Parent/Bantam bonspiel which takes place in March.
Emphasizing safety, our goal is for the curlers to have fun while developing their skills! During the season the Little Rocks (youth ranging in age from 7 to 12) will learn curling etiquette and will be taught basic curling fundamentals in accordance with the Ontario Curling Association (OCA) skill development.
Bantam curlers range in age from 13 to 16 years of age. The skill level of the Bantams can be first year curlers to those who have enjoyed curling from the Little Rock level. The Bantams develop their skills by focusing on consistency, strategy and team work. After two or three years of curling experience, if so desired, the Bantam curlers are at a level to also enjoy the Interclub League or OCA competitions. The Chinguacousy Junior curlers (17-20 years old) also play on Sunday afternoon.
The fee for the 2015-2016 season is $105.00 per child. An adjusted price is available for families registering 3-4 children. Tax receipts will be issued a few weeks after registration. The Chinguacousy Curling Club will always welcome new youth curlers throughout the season. If you register your child during the curling season the fee will be pro-rated.
To register please use the online registration system available on the website.
What to Wear/What to Bring
Children should bring a clean pair of running shoes they can dedicate to curling. Sliders will be provided for the children to use but they are also available for purchase from a local vendor. Please have your child dressed to be active in sweat pants or other stretchable clothing. Gloves and toques can also be worn. It is highly recommended that children wear a protective helmet for safety reasons. Skating or skiing helmets are acceptable.
The Role of Parents
Parents play a crucial role in their child’s’ curling experience whether it is ensuring the child arrives prepared to participate, words of encouragement or celebration of their success. A parent or guardian must remain onsite during the program at all times. Parents can observe the program from the lounge area but are also encouraged to volunteer on ice regardless of experience or knowledge of curling. Volunteers can vary in age and skill. High school students are welcome to help and are eligible to count their volunteer hours towards their diploma requirement.
Volunteers are needed to assist with warm-up stretching, on ice supervision/coaching, helping move equipment or rocks on the ice, and the social activities planned throughout the year. We also require volunteers to assist with the bonspiel in March.
If you are interested in learning more about the volunteer opportunities please contact Laura McIntyre.
