October - November 2023

Welcome back!

We’re delighted to welcome back returning members and new members for an exciting season. Although it’s been a great start, there are still a few spots available in various leagues, so if you know anyone who might still be interested in signing up, give them a call.

Members Curling Clinic

On October 14 over 30 members signed up to review and refresh their curling skills and knowledge. Delivery, sweeping and strategy were all very well covered. Thanks to our volunteer coaches for taking the time to help the rest of us! A second clinic will be held on January 8, 2024.

Youth Curling

Chinguacousy Youth Curling on Sundays, started October 15 and now has 22 youth signed up. The new youth curling league which started October 18 has 8 experienced youth curlers eager to play league games. Great opportunities to gain skill, meet new people and enjoy a social winter sport.

Marv White Award

We are delighted to bring back the Marv White Award. It has been on hiatus for the past couple of years due to covid. This award honours individuals who have, in their own special way, made a very positive contribution to the betterment of our Club and recognizes the special efforts of each for their volunteerism, sportsmanship, competitiveness, club building efforts and fellowship efforts. Nominations can be sent to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.  by November 3. Etiquette

If you are not delivering your rock or up next, please stand between the hog lines. That way, you are not in anyone’s line of sight or distracting the person in the hack getting ready to deliver their rock.

Terminology

Hack – the foothold in the ice you use to push off from when you deliver the rock. Also a degree of weight the skip may ask for, that is, when the skip says to thrown the rock “hack weight” – that means to throw the rock such that it would go as far as the hack without sweeping.
